Axis - The second cervical vertebrae (C-2). The name axis comes from the Greek word axle because the atlas rotates on the adontoid process of the axis.
The axis is a distinctively shaped vertebrae, and is second from the skull. It is one of its kind in the vertebral column, and is usually easily identifiable compared to all others.
Cervical - From the Latin word Cervix which means neck. Virtually all mammals have 7 cervical vertebrae. There are very few exceptions such as the three-toed sloth, which has 9 and the manatee and two toed sloth which have 6.
These large, spherical wood beads are beautifully complimented by the larger backbones of the coyote.
Necklace measures 21".
