A deeply symbolic and beautifully architectural addition to the 2/6 Evil Eye Collection, these earrings honor the quiet, ancient resilience of Florida’s native wetlands. This design showcases a matched pair of stunningly intricate Florida softshell turtle vertebrae. Salvaged carefully from local roadsides after a tragic vehicular strike, these complex, wing-like bones have been given a dignified second life, transforming an unfortunate loss into a powerful talisman of protection and longevity.
Crowning and anchoring the highly textured vertebrae are 8mm glass evil eye beads in a rich, vibrant teal, creating a striking contrast against the clean white bone.
 
The Upgrade: Processing native turtle vertebrae requires specialized knowledge and an incredibly precise hand due to the intricate, deeply recessed cavities of the bone structure. We take these wild specimens from their rawest form—meat on the bone—and guide them through a rigorous, multi-step studio transformation. Through months of meticulous hand-flushing, macerating, deep degreasing, whitening, and strict sanitization, we ensure they are flawlessly preserved and structurally sound. You receive a pure, hyper-hygienic piece of fine bone jewelry with an unbroken chain of custody.
 
The Composition
The Specimens: Two matched, ethically salvaged Florida softshell turtle vertebrae (Apalone ferox), completely processed from scratch in-studio.
The Palette: An elegant combination of pristine bone white, deep translucent teal glass beads with crisp black-and-white protective eyes, and warm gold tones.
The Loom/Build: A sophisticated vertical stack where the sculptural, sweeping lines of the turtle vertebra are beautifully framed by an 8mm teal glass bead at the top and base.
The Hardware: Premium, secure gold-toned leverback ear wires and heavy-duty ball head pins.
