Axis - The second cervical vertebrae (C-2). The name axis comes from the Greek word axle because the atlas rotates on the adontoid process of the axis.
The axis is also a very distinctive shaped vertebrae, not likely to be mistaken for any of the others.
Cervical - From the Latin word Cervix which means neck. Virtually all mammals have 7 cervical vertebrae. There are very few exceptions such as the three-toed sloth, which has 9 and the manatee and two toed sloth which have 6.
This unique necklace measures 22". Antique Copper.
