Radius - Latin for a spoke or ray, as in the spoke of a wheel.
The radius is a long bone with a convace articular surface on one end or sometimes on both ends. The radius goes on the inside of the front leg, twisting from the thumb side at the wrist to the outside at the elbow when the palm is face down. It is usually the smaller of the paired arm bones but in whales and seals it may be about the same size as the ulna. In bats, it is the large bone. In ungulates (hoofed animals) and rabbits, the radius is fused to the ulna.
Radius bone measures 1 1/4". 2 1/8" total.
