This is the pair that started the madness.
Originally, these raccoon scapulae were damaged in the center—a common occurrence with road-salvaged specimens. Instead of setting them aside, I decided to lean into the imperfection. I made the natural holes larger, smoothed the edges, and drilled a periphery of tiny apertures around the opening.
Inside that frame, I "painted" an abstract scene using glass. I wove 8/0 lime green seed beads and 11/0 blue glass beads using 26-gauge tarnish-resistant wire to create a structural, vibrant window of color. This pair was the turning point that taught me that a "flaw" is actually just a doorway to a better design.
They are bold, artistic, and represent the exact moment the Anatomical Loom was born.
