The Story

From Environmental Tragedy to High-Fashion Tribute. For a long time, these fragments of the Florida Softshell Turtle carapace remained in the studio, ignored because of their jagged edges and inherent asymmetry. I viewed them as "broken"—until my journey as a painter taught me to embrace the fragment for what it truly is: a canvas for discovery.

This pair is an act of Redemptive Conservation. By hand-filing the sharp remainders of a roadside tragedy and framing them in warm, protective copper, we have saved this being from obscurity. What was once a discarded remnant is now a high-fashion statement—a reminder that beauty isn't found in perfect symmetry, but in the story of what survives. To wear these is to cherish the animal for what it was and celebrate the art it has now become.

The Composition

A textured, high-contrast design that bridges the gap between archaeology and avant-garde jewelry.

  • The Bone: Ethically salvaged, highly porous carapace sections from a Florida Softshell Turtle.

  • The Metalwork: Hand-wrapped in raw copper wire to secure the structural integrity of the bone, finished with matching copper findings.

  • Length: A dynamic, asymmetrical drop. The "Arch" measures 1.5" x 0.75", while the "Hourglass" measures 1.125" x 0.625".

Style & Wear

The "Carapace Contrast" earrings are designed for the collector who finds beauty in the irregular. Because no two sections of a shell are identical, this pair serves as a wearable reminder of nature’s unique geometry. They are exceptionally lightweight, offering a comfortable, all-day wear with a sophisticated, earthy patina that will only deepen with time.
