The Story

A Legacy in Bloom. In the studio, the "Resurrectionist" philosophy applies not just to the animal remains we salvage, but to the cherished objects that anchor our own personal histories. This whimsical sculpture is built into a demitasse cup and saucer that belonged to my mother, who passed away nine years ago. I love taking her pieces and upcycling them, allowing them to continue their story in a beautiful, unexpected way.

It is a tiny, fantastical garden—the kind you would expect to find through the looking glass in Alice in Wonderland. Emerging from a bed of preserved green moss are several "flowers" meticulously crafted from salvaged fish scales. These transparent, architectural scales look like delicate, impossible glass blossoms, frozen in time. It is an adorable, one-of-a-kind artifact that blends personal memory with the resilience of nature, preserved as a permanent tribute.

The Composition

A heartwarming and whimsical sculpture that transforms a cherished vintage item into a thriving, miniature world.

  • The Foundation: An original vintage demitasse cup and saucer set, glued and permanently affixed as one piece (approx. 5-inch diameter).

  • The "Garden": Preserved natural green moss with delicate floral elements made from ethically salvaged Florida fish scales.

  • Authenticity: Includes a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity by Michele Moore.

The Curator’s Corner

The Demitasse Garden is a perfect study of narrative and nature. While it fits beautifully into our Bone Botany series, its strong personal story and whimsical aesthetic make it a versatile display piece. It is an ideal "curiosity" for a desk, a sunlit windowsill, or a curated bookshelf. Because it was crafted with a vintage ceramic set, it feels immediately like a family heirloom.

Note on Handling: This is a delicate fine art sculpture and should be handled with care. We recommend displaying it in a low-traffic area where its intricate scale blossoms can be admired without the risk of being bumped.
