The Story đź’€
The ultimate expression of Tangible Conservation and Resurrection Art, The Grand Bone-Sai stands as our largest, most intricate, and most ambitious bone tree to date. This masterpiece represents the evolution of a legacy that began in 2019 with our first blue-ribbon award winner, "Easily Amused." While many smaller iterations have grown at our workbench since, this magnificent sculpture is indubitably the queen of the collection.
Built from hundreds of individual, meticulously salvaged remnants, this piece breathes new, permanent life into the wild. Unlike our earliest works, The Grand Bone-Sai features intentionally exposed copper wiring intricately woven throughout the structure. The copper serves as a striking visual metaphor—acting as a life-giving vein and arterial system that binds the skeletal elements together, injecting a powerful, metallic life force into the silhouette. It is a profound, full-circle artistic achievement, transforming elements of mortality into an enduring, timeless symbol of growth and resilience.
The Composition
The Specimens: A breathtaking assembly of hundreds of ethically salvaged, studio-processed animal bones, featuring complex configurations of armadillo vertebrae, invasive Burmese python ribs, and alligator teeth, among other hidden natural treasures.
The Palette: Stark, clean bone ivory beautifully juxtaposed against the rich, warm, metallic gleam of raw industrial copper.
The Build/Loom: A massive, completely custom structural build. Every individual bone has been hand-selected for its curve and geometry, structurally mounted and bound with intricate copper wire systems to form the sprawling canopy and rooted trunk of a traditional bonsai tree.
The Profile: A commanding, museum-tier presence measuring a spectacular 27 inches tall by 22 inches wide.
Display & Decor
As a high-end centerpiece, The Grand Bone-Sai requires a prominent focal space to be fully appreciated. It functions as an architectural anchor, making it perfect for a well-lit gallery niche, a grand mantelpiece, or a primary display table. Because of the intricate, hidden details—like the glint of alligator teeth and the dense weaving of python ribs—this sculpture demands 360-degree viewing. Under direct accent lighting, the copper elements glow warmly, casting dramatic, complex shadows that bring the entire tree to life. Pair it with minimalist modern decor or dark wood surfaces to let its rich texture command the room.
