To all of my fellow Middle Earth fanatics,

For more than a century, readers worldwide have enjoyed J.R.R. Tolkien’s dramatic story-telling; everything from the Silmarillion through the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. These tales have been experienced throughout 70 different languages from across the globe. Hundreds of artists’ depictions have been produced based solely on Tolkien’s expressive and descriptive mind.

These 10 paintings are inspired by some of my favorite renowned artists’ renditions from a collection called, “The Illustrated World of Tolkien” by David Day.

The Illustrated World of Tolkien: A UV Transformation Series

Artist: Phillip S. Moore

Series: Middle Earth (10 Original Works)

Experience Middle Earth through a whole new lens. This exclusive series of original paintings by Phillip S. Moore captures the iconic landscapes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legends using a unique process designed for both natural and ultraviolet light.

The Magic Behind the Art

Phillip’s process is deeply personal. Navigating the world with tritanopia and protanopia (color blindness), he creates these works under a blacklight using professional-grade ultraviolet watercolors.

  • In Natural Light: You’ll see a serene, classically rendered interpretation of Middle Earth—rich with texture and detail.

  • Under UV/Blacklight: The world transforms. Hidden paths glow, magical fires ignite, and the "unseen" world of the Elves and Wizards comes to life in vibrant, neon brilliance.

Premium Materials

These aren't just fantasy illustrations; they are professional fine art pieces built to last:

  • Paper: Rendered on the highest quality 100% cotton watercolor paper for superior texture and longevity.

  • Pigment: Painted with Paul Rubens Professional UV watercolors and other high-end professional pigments, ensuring brilliant color and lightfastness.
