Whitening the Wild: From Carcass Corner to Curation

At the Bone Boutique, we believe in the alchemy of sunlight. While winter in Southwest Florida has been surprisingly chilly this year, the return of the sun means our "Carcass Corner" is officially in high gear. For us, the process is just as important as the finished piece of jewelry. It’s about respect, transparency, and a commitment to Responsible Processing.

In our latest behind-the-scenes video, we take you through a time-lapse of our whitening trays. We don’t use harsh industrial chemicals or shortcuts. Instead, we rely on a simple, effective combination of:

  • Upcycled Materials: Repurposing storage bin lids as sorting trays and vegetable bags for meticulous cleaning.

  • Eco-Friendly Bases: Simple dishwashing detergent and food-grade hydrogen peroxide.

  • The Power of the Florida Sun: Letting nature do the heavy lifting to achieve that signature "Bone Boutique" brightness.

Reclaiming History: From Boca Grande to the Everglades

The specimens on our trays today tell a powerful story of Florida’s wild landscape.

One of our most delicate projects involves fish scales salvaged from Boca Grande following the devastation of Hurricane Ian. Seeing these scales whiten in the sun is a process of renewal; soon, they will be transformed into our signature "Bone Blossom" floral sculptures.

We are also incredibly grateful for our network of community partners. From local charter captains and hunters to Certified Python Hunters, these contributors help us reduce the impact of invasive species in the Everglades by turning a challenge into "Wearable Conservation.

We are an open book when it comes to how we macerate and whiten. Whether it’s road-salvage or a community donation, every element is handled with gratitude. By the time a piece reaches our work stations, it has been through a journey of cleaning and curation that honors the animal it came from. Find out more about our whitening process. Click Here!
