Our commitment to "Wearable Conservation" begins with our ethical sourcing. We meticulously acquire bones from a variety of sustainable and respectful channels: community call-ins for roadkill (which we still occasionally pick up), generous donations from local farms and hunters, and materials from animals harvested for food. Michele or Phillip personally salvage and process all materials. Crucially, Bone Boutique never pays for bones; this policy prevents poaching or illegal harvesting, guaranteeing our materials are acquired through entirely ethical and respectful means.

For Bone Boutique, due to the unique and found nature of our materials, we are not able to take specific custom orders for bone carvings or designs. However, we are absolutely committed to ensuring our Wearable Conservation pieces can be enjoyed by everyone! If you have metal allergies, please contact us or leave a note with your order, as we offer a variety of alternative findings, from plastic to titanium, to ensure your comfort. Here's what our policy covers: Damaged Items: If your item arrives damaged due to our packaging or shipping, we will gladly offer a full refund or replacement, upon verification with photos of the damage. Change of Mind: While we cannot offer returns on sculptures due to their delicate nature, we understand that unforeseen circumstances might occur. If you decide you no longer want a sculpture after receiving it, we encourage you to contact us within 7 days. For heavier soiling: You can carefully wash your bone jewelry with a mild dishwashing liquid. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a paper towel. For thorough drying, allow it to air-dry in the sun for a few days. General care: Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals (like strong cleaning agents), extreme temperatures, or direct, intense sunlight, which can cause cracking or discoloration over time. The creation of our unique art begins with the utmost respect for the animal and its legacy. Once ethically sourced (through roadkill pick-up, farm donations, or from harvested animals), the bones undergo a meticulous cleaning and preservation process. Initial Cleaning: Large specimens often begin with bucket maceration, a natural process that allows decomposition to clean the bones thoroughly. Detailed Cleaning & Sanitization: Smaller specimens, or for finer detail work, we use solutions like hydrogen peroxide to ensure complete sanitization and a pristine finish. Natural Whitening: Sunlight plays a crucial role in our process, naturally whitening and sterilizing the bones, giving them that beautiful, clean appearance. This method ensures environmental friendliness and honors traditional practices. While there are various methods, we've developed our own refined process through years of experience and experimentation. We believe these animals deserve to be honored through our art, and our meticulous preservation reflects that commitment.
